I live in a house with no chimney.I want to fit a fan assisted gas fire.Do i need to run a flue to an outside wall?do i have to build a false firebreast? what size flue would i need?

Best Answer:

Search "vent-free Fireplace" and you will see thousands of models that do not any vents. I have one i prefer it over a venting fireplace because you loose heat up the chimney.. Honestly it gets too hot and with a built in thermostat it is ether never on or your burning up. There is some restrictions on vent free fireplaces. if you have a new house and it is a small room you will have to add vents to other rooms, attic or outside just to let more oxygen in the room. there is safety features if the oxygen level gets to low it will turn off.

get Professional help, honestly you have no idea, i had a chimney and they still had to put a vent on the living room door, and a hole in the living room wall bout a foot wide, and that was WITH a usable chimney, :)

uuuum..... okay im 14 so i really dont have much of a clue BUT we do have a gas fire and no chimney. there's a hole in the wall that goes horizontally to the outside, which is hardly visible from either side so surely isn't that big. we just have a big mantlepiece thing, the fire sits in it but doesn't go inwards that far.

We had a gas fire fitted last year in a room with no chimney, I was fitted on an internal wall, we had a professional gasman do it, they put a small vent on outside wall about 1 foot square. the fire we has was a flueless one and it is lovely althought they do cost more money than an ordinary gas fire. Get a corgi registered gasman to give u some advice.

mrs peel is right. Buy a flueless gas fire. They are also virtually 100% efficient. B Q do a range as do Argos. These are modern in appearance. I believe you can get models that simulate woodburning stoves. These would be a bit dearer though.
